The first.
The first ever photo taken of you.
The first moment I knew my world would never be the same.
The first time I felt completely in love with you and terrified by you, all at the same time.
The first breath.
I didn’t know if this photo would ever come into existence.
If I would ever feel that warmth of your breath on my skin as you cried.
I wished.
I hoped.
And I fought.
I fought damn hard for you.
I was an encyclopaedia on assisted conception.
I became a human pin cushion.
Even my hormones were not my own.
And I cried.
So many tears.
I often questioned if you wanted me.
If I was ever going to be good enough for you.
However, if I was certain of only one thing in my life, it’s that I was going to be a mama.
Somehow.
I knew we would meet, one day.
When you were ready to do so.
And so, this photo, this first
Means so much more than you will ever know.
Today.
This is your first.
Your first day of school.
The first day of chapter that will lead you to adulthood.
And so, on this day, this day of firsts, I thank you.
Thank you for choosing me.
For the first time.
